Is Facebook free?

Are you ready for some juicy gossip about me?

Admit it, you’re curious. What kind of deep dark secrets hide in the head of a Christian Minister…

I have an addiction type personality. It’s true! While most people can do things in moderation it takes a lot of self-control for me to do anything part ways. A part of addiction is also a tendency toward paranoia. But that’s another issue in itself.

With technology readily at hand any addiction is easily fed. It’s easy to Google information that used to be obscure. Along with that it is a simple matter to find any type of images to indulge carnal lust. Find recipes for dangerous intoxicants. Even step by step instructions on a variety of illegal activities. But those are not of interest to me.

Entertainment is my main addiction. Yep. Funny videos, jokes, movies, good stories, various how to’s, games, news stories, these are the things that I spend time and money on. And “free” APPS are the best to steal my time!

Doesn’t sound so bad, right? Until you count the cost. Every week I get a report on phone usage. It even breaks it down to the specific APPS used. Month after month Facebook has been top of the list. Over time I managed to pair it down to a mere 1 hour 20 minutes a day on average. That means on every break, every wait in line, any chance to glance has been giving attention to a phone screen.

Did you know there are people all around us? Real flesh and blood humans! Fellow citizens of this celestial orb we call earth. You know what? Most all of them crave interaction with other bipeds known as the human race!

Anyway, all that to say I deleted Facebook from my phone. No, I did not delete my Facebook account because that would require an inner resolve beyond my current ability.

So before the withdrawals hit, as they undoubtedly will, I am publicly declaring Facebook will no longer be available on my phone. If you see me carrying around and looking at my tablet feel free to intervene…

FB is definitely not “free,” not in terms of the time you spend, or the amount of information you willingly supply to ad-agencies and such. Years ago I deleted my “real” profile and it was a great decision! Nowadays I have a profile I use for collecting die-cast models. It still exacts a premium in terms of time, but not nearly as much during that time when I was assaulted by “everyone’s everything” that didn’t really contribute to anything. So, pray tell— What does lurk inside the recesses of a minister’s mind! 🙂

I took the APP off a year ago because it was to easy to distract. Now I have to get an email or physically work to log in. I spend less time than I used to, but still too much!
