Repentance Sermon Series Part 3

This is the third and final message in the series on repentance. The simple definition of repentance is a change of mind, but when the Bible calls for repentance, it calls for more than that. True repentance involves a change in the whole person-mind (intellect), emotions (affections), and will (purpose).

This is part 2 of  ‘7 Myths of Repentance.’ A myth is a widely held but false belief or idea. A lie is an intentionally false statement. In this sermon series we looked at what repentance is as well as myths of repentance that are commonly accepted as truth. The seven myths we looked at are;

  1. Sorrow Equals Repentance
  2. Self-Preservation is Repentance (Fox hole religion)
  3. Penance and Repentance are Equal
  4. Reformation is Repentance (Turning over a new leaf)
  5. Repentance and Self-Defense can exist Together (Not my fault I sinned mentality)
  6. Repentance Can Be Selective (Cherry picking sins)
  7. Repentance Eliminates the Consequence of Sin

If we are to be clear about godly repentance we need to understand why these commonly held beliefs are invalid.

Faith is the vehicle that takes us to salvation and beyond. Repentance builds the road.
