Have you ever given a child a piece of paper and a pen and received back a “work of art”? My fridge has been decorated many times over the years with such masterpieces.
I remember a little girl that picked dandelions from my yard and gave them to my wife as a bouquet. As a response my wife gave her a hug and told her thank you for the beautiful flowers. The little girl smiled and was truly joyful for her reward.
Do you struggle with the idea of giving to God? Giving back to God is often thought of in more complicated terms than necessary. 2 Corinthians 9:7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
The attitude Paul is referring to in this verse is as a child offering you a heart felt drawing or handful of dandelions. Just simple, earnest giving because of what God has given you. “Here you go, Lord. Do you like it?”
In response God rewards us with joy, an increased ability to give, an increased thankfulness to God, and the Gospel glorified.
